What is a Tummy Tuck?
Abdominoplasty, commonly referred to as a Tummy Tuck, is a cosmetic surgery that removes excess fat, skin, and tightens weakened or separated abdominal muscles. It’s an ideal procedure for those who experience abdominal changes due to:

What to expect during Tummy Tuck
A tummy tuck typically takes between 1 to 1.5 hours and is performed at our QUAD A-accredited outpatient centers in New York City or Middletown, NY. The procedure is done under general anesthesia with the supervision of our Board Certified Anesthesiologist to ensure maximum comfort and safety. After spending approximately 1.5 to 2 hours in the recovery room, patients can return home the same day.
Recovery after Tummy Tuck
Recovery after a tummy tuck is critical to achieving optimal results. Post-procedure, you’ll need to follow these guidelines:
- Stay Flexed: For the first few days, remain in a flexed position at the waist to minimize tension on the incision. This may cause temporary discomfort, especially in your lower back.
- Two Weeks Off: Avoid driving, lifting, or any strenuous activity during the first two weeks. Light activities can begin after this period.
- Abdominal Binder & Girdle: You’ll wear an abdominal binder initially, transitioning to a body girdle after one week. A small drainage tube may be used for the first week, and dissolvable sutures will be applied.
- Exercise: Begin light, non-core exercises after two weeks, with no restrictions by six weeks.
Tummy Tuck with Lipo or Breast Surgery
Often, liposuction of the back or breast surgery is combined with Tummy Tuck to further enhance the overall contouring of the body. This comprehensive approach helps reshape and harmonize the curves of your body in just over an hour.
Many patients choose to combine their tummy tuck with other procedures, such as:
- Liposuction (for back, flanks, or thighs) to further enhance body contour.
- Breast Surgery (breast augmentation or breast lift), often as part of a Mommy Makeover.
